‘I am a rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys. Like a lily among thorns is my darling among the young women. Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest is my beloved among the young men. I delight to sit in his shade, and his fruit is sweet to my taste. Let him lead me to the banquet hall, and let his banner over me be love.’
It has been stated that Jesus is sometimes referred to as the rose of Sharon, the lily of the valley. For this song, I am referring to Him as the lily. Pure in its whiteness, sweet in its fragrance, poisonous to those who would wrongfully imbibe it and with a deep sadness and humbleness in hanging its sweet head down.
