Everyone knows what fire is. But what is it REALLY? Why is it in the Book as both great and terrible? Is it as simple as a literal analogy of keeping close to the fire to keep you warm and alive, while should you jump into the fire you’re bound to get burned, and if you don’t escape, die? Why would God make something both great and terrible? Could it be beacuse He is both great and terribly awesome?

‘Therefore, since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us be filled with gratitude, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe. For our God is a consuming fire.’

‘To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.’

‘Know therefore today that it is the LORD your God who is crossing over before you as a consuming fire. He will destroy them and He will subdue them before you, so that you may drive them out and destroy them quickly, just as the LORD has spoken to you.’

It is clear. Our God is a consuming fire who will devour the wicked before my eyes. That is a very good thing. Hosanna.

‘”For behold, the day is coming, burning like a furnace; and all the arrogant and every evildoer will be chaff; and the day that is coming will set them ablaze,” says the LORD of hosts, “so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.” But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves. “You will tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day which I am preparing,” says the LORD.

In the same verse, fire is both bad for the wicked and healing for the righteous. Is fire Love? Is Love fire? I know there is a lot of talk of “Love Trumping Hate” but I assure you, it is just talk. The wicked rulers we are under actually hate Love and do what they can to eradicate it. They are doing what they can (secretly, in the dark) to eradicate me. This fire I feel in my heart, is it tangible? Is it a literal, spiritual fire? It certainly feels that way to me.

Fire is also used, obviously, to describe hell.

‘Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.’

‘It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, where “‘the worms that eat them do not die, and the fire is not quenched.”‘

My wrath will go forth like fire And burn with none to quench it, Because of the evil of your deeds.’

‘Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.’

God also uses fire as a cleanser and refiner of His believers. That is where I believe I am right now. Being refined and made pure by this lonely hell I find myself in.

‘These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold–though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.’

‘For You have tried us, O God; You have refined us as silver is refined.’

Fire will also bring all these terrible deeds of the dark to Light…

‘If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.’

‘No one lights a lamp and covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, he sets it on a lampstand, so those who enter can see the light. For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.’

‘So do not be afraid of them. For nothing is concealed that will not be uncovered, or hidden that will not be made known.’

Alright, Father, I won’t be afraid. Your will be done.

‘Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.’

I am just a messenger of Light and I am just as perplexed as you, dear reader. I love you. Like fire loves oxygen.
