My 17 year old Camry is having some problems. So I took her into the shop and got a ride home from Emjay. He was telling me about his souped-up ’95 civic and how he put a 200 horsepower engine in the little body. And now she flies and beats even the Mustangs in the races. And it dawned on me, the power of automobiles. They really are the power of many, many horses at once. How amazing.
And yet, I would trade the fastest car for one real horse. My one, real horsepower horse. Oh, the places we’d go!
That is a dream that I will have to take with me into the next life. It is impossible to actually travel by horse these days. Unless… I myself become the horse.
Yes, that’s it.
Another beautiful contradiction in the Bible. It says, ‘The horse is made ready for battle, but victory rests with the Lord.’ And yet, ‘Do not be like a senseless horse that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.’ I am certainly a proud, white horse made ready for battle and I am working hard on being obedient to all. ‘Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.’
‘Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.’
Father, I am as I dreamed as a child, a proud steed. And if it be my fate that everyone think of me as a bitch, then so be it, if it be for your sake. ‘Anyone who is among the living has hope —even a live dog is better off than a dead lion!‘
May it humble me in my stubborn pride that I fear may be the reason I was thrown down. ‘Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.’
Once again, every word rings true. At this point, I have developed something stronger than faith. I would call it knowledge. I have knowledge of God and of heaven and of love. And above all, hope. ‘My righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.’ No shrinking back now, Father. Full steam ahead! Your will be done.
