This portrait of Hitchcock my brother-in-law posted is perhaps the most honest portrayal of the devil I’ve seen. Replace the legendary director with anyone from this current political administration, any televangelist, any mainstream bubble gum act and then you will begin to see with your true eyes.
And once the deceiver is seen his powers diminish greatly.
‘But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.’
It is a sign of the times when a television show can be called Lucifer and no one blinks an eye. Or a pop group for children can be called One Direction and the parents gladly buy into it. One Direction is a biblical reference; ‘The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven.’
There are countless more examples like this once your eyes are opened. Then you begin to see why the world is the way it is and how it got this way. By ‘Satan, who leads the whole world astray.’
Once you awake it will be unsettling how deep we are into this great night. You will find you are surrounded by it. Maybe even find it in your very own family. Jesus proclaimed, ‘Your enemies will be right in your own household!’ But do not fear.
‘Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.” Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy.’
If you are to be a true believer, it is both the simplest and most worthwhile path you can take. Make no mistake, there are many who claim to believe and would write me off as a madwoman. Listen to your heart. I have often wondered myself if I am not some evil entity, as I only seem to bring destruction and heartache to anything I touch. But these journal entries, should you listen to them dear reader, are my attempts to make amends for my wicked ways.
‘The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.’
‘We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, so that our ministry will not be discredited. Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left; through glory and dishonor, bad report and good report; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.’
May the peace of our Good Lord Jesus be with you.
((‘If we are “out of our mind,” as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. For Christ’s love compels us.’))
